The East Sussex and Brighton & Hove Real Nappy Network have enabled numerous local day nurseries to switch to using washable nappies, by funding start-up costs. At the moment 8 nurseries in Brighton & Hove and East Sussex use washable nappies. Some of these nurseries use the local laundry service, others wash their own nappies.
A Best Practice Guide for using washable nappies in nurseries is available from the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP). For further information please visit www.realnappycampaign.com.
Working in partnership with the East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust, East Sussex County Council has funded the maternity units in East Sussex to switch over to using washable nappies. The Stork Eco Nappy is available for parents to use at Eastbourne District General Hospital, the Hastings Conquest Hospital and the Crowborough Birthing Unit. These nappies are provided so parents can get used to using washable nappies during their stay in hospital.
These nappies are specifically designed for newborn babies and are only available within the NHS. If you would like to use washable nappies once you leave hospital please see our suppliers list to find out about the many other brands and styles available.
