Nurseries using washable nappies

The East Sussex and Brighton & Hove Real Nappy Network have enabled numerous local day nurseries to switch to using washable nappies, by funding start-up costs. At the moment 8 nurseries in Brighton & Hove and East Sussex use washable nappies. Some of these nurseries use the local laundry service, others wash their own nappies.

A Best Practice Guide for using washable nappies in nurseries is available from the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP). For further information please visit www.realnappycampaign.com.

Hospitals using washable nappies

We are extremely sorry to announce we will no longer be providing washable nappies in the local hospitals (EDGH and Conquest). Unfortunately, there was a much faster loss rate for the nappy covers than had been anticipated and the East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust have decided not to replenish the missing stocks. However, we will continue to work in partnership with local midwives and health visitors to provide information to parents about washable nappies and to encourage their use as a way to reduce rubbish.
