About us

Who we are

The Brighton & Hove and East Sussex Real Nappy Network was formed in early 2000. It comprises waste and recycling officers from Brighton & Hove City Council, East Sussex County Council and from the district and borough councils of East Sussex, representatives from local nappy suppliers and laundry companies, health professionals, NCT representatives and, most important of all, local parents who use washable nappies.

What we do

The key elements of the nappy promotions project are:

  1. awareness raising, promotion and publicity
  2. working with health professionals; mainly midwives, health visitors and childcare providers. Giving presentations about washable nappies and offering on loan display boards and demonstration bags of washable nappies as well as other promotional materials for use in clinics, parents groups and with individual families
  3. working with nurseries to fund start-up costs to switch to washable nappies
  4. setting up a number of nappy loan schemes across the area
  5. developing a starter pack scheme offering all local parents an incentive to try washable nappies at inimal cost.
  6. working with local hospitals to fund start-up costs to switch to washable nappies in maternity units
  7. co-ordinating Real Nappy Network meetings and events for the annual national Real Nappy Week
  8. developing a full-colour A4 brochure “A Comprehensive Guide to Washable Nappies”
  9. setting up a website.
